Our volunteer program at the Dunes Center is crucial to our ability to fulfill our mission. Volunteers implement our education programs, operate our Visitor Center, and provide support to staff. We have a wide variety of volunteer opportunities, tailored for people of all ages, skill levels, and backgrounds. The Dunes Center is also a certified organization for the Presidential Service Award. Date: Saturday, May 24, 2025 Time: 9:00 AM- 12:00 AM Location: Oso Flaco Lake Trailhead. Join us for a colorful morning exploring the blooming wonders of the Guadalupe-Nipomo Dunes on a Wildflower Hike at Oso Flaco Lake! This special outing will be led by botanist Steve Junak and docent Ray Segovia, who will guide us through the native wildflowers, plant communities, and natural history of this stunning coastal landscape. This is a moderate walk on a boardwalk trail with plenty of opportunities to stop, learn, and take in the beauty of the season. Whether you're a wildflower enthusiast or simply looking for a refreshing way to connect with nature, this hike is a perfect way to start your weekend. What to Bring: Comfortable walking shoes Sun protection (hat, sunscreen) Reusable water bottle Camera or notebook if you like to record observations! Saturday, June 14, 2025 8:00 am - 12:00 pm. $5 – $10 (discounted for members). Mark your calendars for what should be a great bird hike at Oso Flaco Lake! This 3-mile, approximately 3-hour hike will take us from the parking lot out to the ocean and back. Don’t be intimidated by the distance of this hike. If you only want to do a 1 or 2-mile hike, or even a just a 100-yard hike, you shouldn’t be disappointed. We’ll be treated to numerous species singing while we gather in the parking lot to start our hike.
