August 25 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Odd Fellows Hall (520 Dana Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401). General Admission $12.00. Orbital Debris (specifically that made by humans) can be created through pieces falling off spacecraft, collisions between objects, or just an object no longer in use. Currently, there are more than 30,000 pieces of orbital debris being tracked in both close orbital range and further out in space. Knowledge of the material and orbital information is essential to understanding the impacts of these objects on the current operational satellites. This discussion will cover the creation of debris, the observations of debris, how to curtail its existence, and what the future holds for operational spacecraft.
