Trinity Presbyterian Church

May 18, 2025 from 4–6pm at Trinity Church, 1301 Osos Street, San Luis Obispo, CA 93401. Our current political climate is full of rancor and division, and yet there are organizations that work to bring healing, listening, and understanding. When the culture around us seeks ways to bring peace, Christians should be in those conversations. Braver Angels is a national organization that builds workshops and conversations that foster respectful understanding between points-of-view. The goal is not agreement, necessarily, but respect and love for people who differ from us. Braver Angels’ local alliance is holding an event at Trinity on May 18, 4-6 pm. “Polarization is Hurting Us All: Let’s Have a Conversation.” We will discuss the forces inside us that divide and demonize those who disagree with us. These forces include our biases, stereotypes, and the media choices we make that only tell us our own side. We want to be right, but we need to listen and build respect. This is a free 2-hour workshop led by Cal and the Braver Angels local leadership. The theatrical troupe “Improv for Good” will also be there to showcase what it’s like to understand others, even if we disagree. You will learn, yes, but you will also contribute, just by being there, signaling to the city we love that there is a way to be at peace in our country. Attendees might be conservative or liberal, religious or not as much, and we need to be in that conversation. It will be a discussion, not a lecture; it will look at why we wall off others, and how we want to love instead.
