Expressions of the Ranch Through Oil Paint with Derek Harrison

In this immersive class, oil painter Derek Harrison will explore painting the art of the west. This will include painting horses on location from life, photographing reference material of horse and rider wearing authentic ranch attire and dynamic ranch landscapes. Students will utilize both plein air sketches as well as photo references to construct paintings of horses along with a modern day cowboy, ranch foreman, Peter Charnock. This knowledge is fundamental in order to paint accurate and beautiful western scenes. The students will gain an understanding of horse anatomy, light/shadow, atmospheric perspective, drawing, composition, and paint handling. $1,440 includes 4 day workshop and lunch daily.
