Friday, 20 June from 10:00 – 12:00. Location: Morro Strand State Beach, California 93442, USA. Join California State Park Volunteer Sharon for a guided beach walk to discover what gets washed up along the sandy shoreline and compare the fresh items with those deposited earlier during high tide. Find and identify items left behind by the tide. Learn about how to identify these fun and fascinating items, such as shells, barnacles, seaweeds and more! Explore their relationship to each other and the sandy beach environment. Meet at the tables next to the campground kiosk at Morro Strand State Beach, off Yerba Buena Street and Highway 1 in Morro Bay. Wear closed toed sturdy shoes and sun protection; dress in layers for the coast and bring plenty of water. Saturday, 21 June from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. Location: William Randolph Hearst Memorial Beach, 750 Hearst Castle Rd, San Simeon, CA 93452, USA. Join CA State Park Interpreter Bre for a guided walk on W.R. Hearst Memorial Beach to dive into the history of shore whaling in San Simeon. We will embark on a gently paced stroll, while discussing the history of Captain Joseph Clark’s shore whaling station in San Simeon Cove. Meet at the bottom of the stairs at W.R. Hearst Memorial Beach. Wear comfortable shoes, sun protection, and layers for walking on the coast. Be prepared for a 1 mile walk over sand. All ages are welcome. Join CA State Park Interpreter Bre for a fun, beginner-friendly birding program in beautiful Morro Bay State Park. Together, we'll learn how to use binoculars and field guides (both of which will be provided) to spot and identify local birds along the 0.7 mile Marina Peninsula Loop Trail. Meet at the Marina Peninsula Trail Head at 9:00 am on Friday, June 27. Please bring comfortable shoes, water, and layers for this 1 hour and 30 minute program. See you there!
