Capslo Adult Day Center provides adult day care for seniors with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia and respite for their family caregivers. Capslo Adult Day Center is located in Paso Robles and is open Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm. Individuals must be 18 years or older to volunteer at this location. Opportunities include: being a client companion, by providing one-on-one interaction with an elderly client; being a music volunteer; and assisting clerical staff with filing, mailings, and data entry. Open Gym is hosted at Centennial Park Gym, located between Georgia Brown Dual Immersion Program and Paso Robles High School, and is easily accessible to community members. Open Gym is free and open to all ages. Participants can drop in to play a rotating list of games including basketball, volleyball, indoor soccer, badminton, corn hole and more. Please note: Open Gym is a non-custodial program. Staff does not track when participants come and go. Open Hours: Monday: 1:30pm-5pm; Tuesday through Thursday: 2:30pm-5pm. The Teen Center is a free facility featuring video games, music, pool table, small cafe and much more. Located between Georgia Brown Dual Immersion Program and Paso Robles High School, the center is easily accessible to our young community members. The Teen Center is open to ages 6th through 12th grades and also enjoys access to the adjacent full-court gymnasium for drop-in basketball and other sports! The Teen Center is a non-custodial program. Participants will sign in but staff does not track when they come and go. Hours: Monday: Gym is open from 1:30pm-5pm, Teen Center from 2pm-5pm; Tuesday through Thursday: Gym is open from 2:30pm-5pm, Teen Center from 3pm-5pm. Class session is Jul 1, 2025 - Jul 31, 2025. This class is an introduction to a traditional Okinawan style of Shorin Ryu Karate. Classes are geared to the beginner with focus on discipline, elementary karate skills (blocks, punches, kicks, stances), history, philosophy, flexibility, muscular and cardiovascular development and basic Japanese language. Three of the first 6 introduction katas or forms will be taught as well. This class will give the students a good foundation for advancement and further study of more complex movements as introduced in our intermediate and advanced classes. These beginning classes are offered Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays from 4-5 PM. Classes are taught by internationally ranked 7th degree Okinawan black belt Ted Jacobson of Shorin-Ryu Karate. This class continues and builds on our introduction to karate classes and is designed for those who have attained white or yellow belt status in our system or other systems of karate. Study is a little more demanding with introduction to approximately nine more forms. Kicking, punching, blocking and stances become more precise and functional as these moves and the katas are more refined. Students are introduced to both individual and paired self-defense drills as well as proper falling techniques. Physical fitness is continued as are opportunities to study and expand on one's own journey into self-defense techniques. Intermediate classes are offered Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5 to 6:30 PM. Class is held in the Centennial Park Banquet Room B on Mondays and Thursdays and in the Centennial Park Acorn Room on Tuesdays. Class session is Aug 4, 2025 - Aug 26, 2025. Adult karate is a twofold class, devoted to introducing adults to Shorin-Ryu karate as well as providing a teaching and learning environment for our brown and black belts. Study for the adults will start with a basic karate etiquette, terminology, blocks, punches, kicks and stances, kicking techniques, stretching and exercise, basic routines and an introduction to the kata/forms. With 21 kata forms, students have a number of years to be introduced to and learn to perform these historical self-defense systems as they move up in ability and knowledge. For our instructors, as well as the brown and black belts, we will look in depth at our curriculum including self-defense, Yakusoto kumite and kumite drills, kata presentation, interpretation and application. Classes are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 to 8 PM. Class is held in the Centennial Park Banquet Room B on Mondays and Thursdays and in the Centennial Park Acorn Room on Tuesdays.
