The Teen Center is located inside the Colony Park Community Center. In addition to offering a variety of fun games and sports for teens from 6th grade to 12th grade, including air hockey, pool, ping pong, Xbox, movies, boardgames, dodgeball and basketball. Staff at the Teen Center also run activities and play games with the teens daily. Teen Center membership is only $20/year and scholarships are available. Volunteers in this role set up a table with hygiene products and towels at 3:45 PM in order to be ready to sign folks up at 4 PM when the site opens to the public. At 4 PM, guests will begin to arrive and volunteers sign up interested individuals for the shower program, and make sure they have a towel and shampoo, conditioner, and soap. The last shower guest can enter at 5:15 PM and needs to be out of the shower at 5:30 PM. Classes are geared to the beginner with focus on discipline, elementary karate skills (blocks, punches, kicks, stances), history, philosophy, flexibility, muscular and cardiovascular development and basic Japanese language. Three of the first 6 introduction katas or forms will be taught as well. This class will give the students a good foundation for advancement and further study of more complex movements as introduced in our intermediate and advanced classes. With 21 kata forms, students have a number of years to be introduced to and learn to perform these historical self-defense systems as they move up in ability and knowledge.
