Once a month, we meet in groups of six to eight to discuss the theme of the month, reflect on recent sermons, and explore what things are bringing us joy in this moment. Meeting material reflects Soul Matters themes and is provided to each member of the group before the meeting. Small Group Ministry occurs periodically. Shower the People (STP) is a mobile shower program that provides free hot showers and new underwear and socks, toothpaste/toothbrushes and combs to the homeless in San Luis Obispo and in Grover Beach. You may have noticed STP’s big blue shower trailer in our UUSLO parking lot every Tuesday and Thursday. 9:00am - 2:00pm. UUSLO provides free food to those in need every Wednesday from 3 to 4:30 pm in the Social Hall. We provide a pantry service where people may choose from the products available that week. Member volunteers run the pantry. The team takes care of: picking up bulk amounts of food from the Food Bank and delivering to UUSLO (a truck or van is helpful), setting it up on tables for people to choose what they want, guiding people as they arrive and go through food area, cleaning the area afterwards (putting tables away, wiping counters, etc). The Worship Arts committee works with the Minister to plan Sunday services. Additional activities include: establishing the theme for each service, choosing the sermon topic, choosing hymns and appropriate music for the service, choosing readings, recruiting and confirming participants (guest speakers, musicians, choir, etc.) This event takes place on the 3rd Tuesday of every month from 1:30pm - 2:45pm.
