Adults 55+ are invited every Friday at 1pm at SLO Senior Center. It's free to attend! Delve into the world of Pinochle, specifically the engaging Double Deck variation. Time: 10:00am – 11:15 a.m. Cost: FREE. The SLO Walkers is a social walking group. This group is for those who want to enjoy a stroll around downtown San Luis Obispo, meet new people, and get some exercise. Coordinated by the Parks and Recreation Department, the group will be provided with different routes around downtown SLO. Waivers will need to be signed by each member in the walking group in order to participate. We walk at various locations in San Luis Obispo on the third Wednesday of Each Month. San Luis Obispo Parks & Recreation Department is excited to have a hiking group with the SLO Senior Center for participants ages 55+ Monthly trail adventures for the more intermediate walkers. Open for all senior center members and anyone who loves to walk or wants to participate in exercise while spending time with other community members. Please bring a water bottle and comfortable walking shoes. Hiking poles and sun protection recommended. Waivers are required for participation. These events are free and the hiking location varies across multiple SLO trails. The San Luis Obispo Philatelic Society (SLOPS) meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month from 1:00-3:00 pm at the San Luis Obispo Senior Center. SLOPS has been an institution in San Luis Obispo for over forty years. Meetings last approximately two hours and usually feature a short program on some aspect of philatelic history or a show-and-tell about a member’s collection. Occasionally, SLOPS will help an outside community member with advice on how to dispose of their (often inherited) stamp collection. All members of the Senior Center are welcome and encouraged to attend SLOPS meetings. To become a voting member or to participate in stamp auctions and raffle, dues are $15 annually. Taught by a Cuesta College Emeritus instructor, this class uses discussions, worksheets, and TED Talks to cover an eclectic array of topics with the goal of keeping your brain active!
