Ultimate Day Camp (UDC) provides a traditional camp environment for Campers 5–13 years old. Campers are separated by the grades for most the of the day and then will merge together at the end of the day. All Campers in attendance will be provided a morning and afternoon snack. Registration fees include 1 Camp t–shirt (must be worn on all Camp field trips; additional shirts may be purchased for $20). Campers should bring to camp daily: sunscreen, hat, water, closed–toe shoes and a healthy lunch. Each week Campers explore a new adventure, based on The Amazing Race, with thematic weekly activities that include: craft time, weekly science experiments and cooking lessons, outdoor play and sports, two swimming trips, an off–site excursion (Everyone will go on the field trip; there will not be anyone staying back at Camp) and an on–site special event or guest speaker… as well as some good old fashioned PLAY time. Professionally trained staff guide Campers through these theme–based weeks of unforgettable memories. Campers will be transported on field trips using SLO Safe Ride. Camp hours are 7:30 am - 5:30 pm every day Monday-Friday for one week sessions throughout the summer months. Volunteering with the SLO Village movement is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the lives of older adults in our community. By volunteering, you can assist with a variety of meaningful tasks, from providing direct support to older adults in their homes to helping our office staff with administrative duties, developing new programs, and participating in social events that bring joy to our members. We value every volunteer and look forward to learning more about you and how you can contribute to our mission. Volunteer opportunities at SLO Village include providing transportation to personal and medical appointments, technology support, assisting with simple tasks around the home or yard such as light weeding, grocery shopping, making courtesy calls, and other in-person activities that directly support our members. Additionally, there are opportunities to volunteer behind the scenes, contributing to operations through office assistance, event planning, social media management, and much more. As a weekend puppy parent, you will be assigned a dog to take home on weekends. You will be expected to pick up the dog from The California Men’s Colony on Fridays each week and keep them for the weekend to expose them to everyday life. This option is great for people who cannot commit to having a dog full time, or for first time puppy raisers who want to get a feel for what it is like without making the full commitment. As a weekend puppy parent, you will be expected to take your dog on outings to generalize their training and prepare them for their future job as a service dog. Service dogs in training can go with you to the grocery store, movie theater, restaurants, and many more locations. You are encouraged to take your dogs on outings to expose them to new environments and practice good public manners in all settings. As a puppy socializer, you would be responsible for taking in one of our new puppies. This puppy would come into your home at 8 weeks old and stay with you until they are around 4 months old and ready to begin their official training to become a service dog. As a puppy socializer, you will be expected to begin some basic training with our puppies to set them up for success in our program. At this age we will be focusing on: potty training, crate training, good manners (not jumping on people, mouthing, barking, etc), basic behaviors (such as sit, down and stay), and positive exposures to the world. Monday - Friday, 8 - 11 AM. Our morning teams orchestrate an incredible process, including stocking shelves, sorting and bagging produce, boxing the groceries and exchanging information with the afternoon teams, as well as the next day's morning team. Mornings can be quite busy dealing with deliveries from the SLO Food Bank and groceries while making boxes to be distributed in the afternoon. All the incoming food has to be processed and shelved or refrigerated. To volunteer or learn more, visit https://www.volunteerslo.org/need/detail/?need_id=617395

Wildlife Hotline Volunteers are the front line in our efforts to support wildlife—like a 911 dispatcher of sorts. They are problem solvers who use a variety of resources to respond to questions and find help for wildlife in need. Hotline volunteers answer the Hotline either live or by checking the Hotline voicemail. Shifts are offered between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM, 7 days a week, every day of the year. Hotline volunteers are supported by staff and online resources. They should be able to communicate calmly and courteously with callers who may be highly emotional, be able to use a computer, be well organized and detail-oriented, and have excellent interpersonal skills.
