As a weekend puppy parent, you will be assigned a dog to take home on weekends. You will be expected to pick up the dog from The California Men’s Colony on Fridays each week and keep them for the weekend to expose them to everyday life. This option is great for people who cannot commit to having a dog full time, or for first time puppy raisers who want to get a feel for what it is like without making the full commitment. As a weekend puppy parent, you will be expected to take your dog on outings to generalize their training and prepare them for their future job as a service dog. Service dogs in training can go with you to the grocery store, movie theater, restaurants, and many more locations. You are encouraged to take your dogs on outings to expose them to new environments and practice good public manners in all settings. Every Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 8:15am-9:00am at San Luis Obispo County YMCA - Group Exercise (Studio 2). This class is designed to get to the core of human movement by adding muscular strength and definition with the use of hand weights and other strength equipment. The class will incorporate traditional weight-room exercises and compound exercises using weighted bars and dumbbells to strengthen your entire body.

This volunteer position involves assisting the Ranger Service Division with hand-built sections of trail construction projects under the guidance and supervision of City staff. With volunteers’ consistent support, the Ranger Service can keep multiple trail projects going simultaneously and build more trail! Wednesday shifts are generally from 8:45 AM to 12:30 PM. This group is for those who want to enjoy a stroll around downtown San Luis Obispo, meet new people, and get some exercise. Coordinated by the Parks and Recreation Department, the group will be provided with different routes around downtown SLO.
